OLD GLORY

OR NO GLORY?

I don’t recall the capital of this great country being Mecca. I also don’t recall the Founders coming over from Saudi Arabia to establish a nation based on Muslim principles with absolute intolerance for any other beliefs. And yes, I take offense when someone – native-born or foreign transplant – has a problem with flying the flag of our country. That flag flies proudly and represents the blood and sacrifice of those who gave us freedom, and those who have fought and continue to fight to preserve it.

Some California schools seem to have a problem with students wearing T-shirts with an American flag on Cinco de Mayo. It is considered incendiary. Some people feel uncomfortable around the American flag; they are offended by references to Christmas; they reject the notion of a national language, preferring some worthless polyglot that has never advanced a culture. What the hell is wrong with our society for tolerating this nonsense? Message to politicians everywhere: “Get a pair – and start using them!”

DEM-ILY POST?

The latest move in political correctness has the mainstream media calling for toning down the rhetoric; “criminalizing” speech that includes any metaphor suggesting a perception of violence (aim, fire upon, target, get in the crosshairs); and having Republicans and Democrats sit in alternating seats in Congress. Presumably they would start each session with a group hug and singing Kumbya.

Funny, I don’t recall such concern when vicious attacks and suggestions of violence were levied at George Bush, Dick Cheney, and Sarah Palin. I don’t recall any criticism of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi by the Mainstream in running perhaps the most vicious and partisan Congress in its history. I DO recall Republicans, after a sweeping return to control of power in 1994, (stupidly) agreeing to power sharing and committee co-chairs from both parties in the spirit of bi-partisanship. That worked well.

While the PC crowd is yelling for Sarah Palin’s head (ironic as that is) for uttering some metaphoric hunting terminology, they may want to remember some of the following:

• We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us

• I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I’m angry!”

• If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,”

• If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard.

• We talk to these folks... so I know whose ass to kick.“

Whose hardly civil terminology was this? Sarah Palin? Glenn Beck? Rush Limbaugh” No, they all came from the polished and peaceful orator – Barack Obama.

NEVER WASTE

A CRISIS

Rahm Emanuel tipped the hand of Liberals when he acknowledged this agenda advancing tool. Such has been the response to the tragic events in Tucson, Arizona when a senseless shooting rampage took the lives of a 9-year old girl, a federal judge, and killed or injured 18 others, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

It took the media about 37 seconds to link the “ hate and violence” being spewed by Glen Beck, Sarah Palin and the Tea party to this awful crime. Nope, this crisis – shamefully – wasn’t going to waste. The anti-gun crowd was trotted out; on cue, the press pilloried Palin and others, and then a pornographic media rally was held by Democrats led by their cheerleader/preacher, President Obama himself. The spectacle was more of a Superbowl party than a solemn memorial and remembrance of the fallen. All that was missing was Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and the Goodyear blimp. Perhaps there are times when a crisis should be wasted.

STATES IN DEEP

DOO DOO

New Jersey’s Governor Christie is pushing for roll backs of fat union contracts and taking on other sacred cows to reduce the costs of government. Nevada’s just elected Governor Brian Sandoval has called for across the board 5% pay cuts among state employees. A few folks actually get it. Many still don’t. The Democrat leadership of Nevada is still pushing for a “broad-based and less volatile tax system” (a state income tax), and has little appetite for the massive cuts in government that the people want and the times demand. This is the message of the Tea Party, and many have still not heard it: the era of big government is OVER.

The people want a return to the constitutional vision of limited government; government for the essential general welfare, not every special interest; and government that leaves to the private sector that which it does best, and reserves to government only that which is necessary and proper – not simply desired.

The real solution to neuter (is that heated rhetoric?) government excess will come in time: a single, uniform sales tax only system of taxation; a specific cap on government spending tied to economic output (GDP/GSP); and a balanced budget requirement, except for periods of declared war or national emergency. As Bugs Bunny would say, “That’s all folks!”

2011 PREDICTION

Gays in military will be absolute nightmare – and it is only the first step to undermining the morale and readiness of the world’s greatest fighting force. There are already calls for women to serve in combat. Affirmative action won’t be far behind. Military recruitment won’t be allowed at Harvard but there will be outreach sessions in the bathhouses of San Francisco. There will be discrimination lawsuits up the wazoo alleging mistreatment or discrimination in promotion.

The solution will be reporting on all military forms the gender (even if in some cases indeterminate), and sexual orientation so that statistics can be maintained to make sure everyone is being treated nicely. (I don’t recall that as an objective in my days in the military). Why stop with gays and women? What about the Homeless? The Handicapped? Muslims with an allegiance to Islam, not America? Communists? Those with peanut allergies? It’s going to be a mess.

NITWIT OF THE MONTH

Any political analyst that thinks term limits will leave us with inexperienced and incompetent legislators who will be easily swayed by lobbyists throwing money at them.

Duh! Isn’t this what we have with the “seasoned veterans?” Take a look back over the past 50 years and see what all that experience has gained us. Education? Energy? Secure borders? Control of health care costs? Housing? Bring on the amateurs.
